Nokia 5000 Novice Review

My wife bought me a cheap phone (Nokia 5000) for my basic needs like call and text. I was amaze that Nokia 5000 have features more than I expected. Even though there are features which are not quite impressive but I can work around with it.

Here’s a link to its detailed specifications Nokia 5000 Full Specs

Following are features I like/dislike about this phone:

Design
I love the phone’s sleek design. It’s cute and thin.

Messaging
When creating a new message and adding contacts to it you don’t have to scroll in your contact list because the phone has a filter feature that allows you to type the starting characters of your contact name and show you the results. It will save you a lot of key press. This feature is not available on Nokia 6300.

Camera
Although the camera max resolution of 1.3 MP is too low, I’m still enjoying its different features. It has an option of Image Sequence, Night Mode (it’s great & bright), and the Self-timer mode. In Self-timer mode you can choose from 3, 5, and 10 seconds options. And again, I can compare these options to Nokia 6300 that having only 10-seconds option in its self-timer mode.

Organizer
The organizer can help us in many ways and this phone has it all like Alarm Clock, Calendar, To Do List, Notes, Countdown Timer, Stop Watch, and Calculator. The Converter which is also very useful is not included in the list but still you can find it inside the phone under Applications -> Collections. There is a missing feature of the Alarm Clock, the multiple alarms but you can have multiple alarms by using To Do List instead.

Phone Setup
Able to change the font size of Contacts, Messages, and Web is one of the features I like about this phone. You have the freedom to choose from small, medium, or large fonts. It’s up to you if you choose the large font and it is easier for someone to peep on your phone. Wallpapers, the phone will automatically zoom in to its desired image height or width when you set a picture as wallpaper.

Media Player
Due to memory card issue I don’t have music files on my phone but I enjoy listening to FM Radio. It is the best alternative to mp3 music.

Connectivity
I don’t have any connectivity issue with this phone. With WAP, I’m always online in yahoo messenger and able to download games for free. The GPRS feature of this phone works great for me as well as the Bluetooth connection.

The only problem I found in this phone is the response time. The response is slow when you navigate to its menus and doing all the stuff in it but still I would recommend in buying this phone. To all of you guys looking for a cheap phone but with all the features mentioned above, grab one of Nokia 5000. It will only cost you around Php 4,400.

That’s all for now and I will post another review for Nokia 6300 phone.
